You may be eligible for Widowed Parent’s Allowance if your husband, wife or civil partner has died before 6 April 2017.

WIDOWS PARENT ALLOWANCE HAS BEEN REPLACED BY BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT PAYMENT.

If you’re a parent and your spouse or civil partner died on or after 6 April 2017 you may be eligible for Bereavement Support Payment instead.

However if your husband, wife or civil partner has died before 6 April 2017 and the cause of death has just been confirmed you may still be eligible for Widows Parent Alowance.

To check whether you are eligible and how much you might receive go to the GOV.UK site.

Backdated payments for Widowed Parent’s Allowance

Widowed Parent’s Allowance can be backdated for up to three months – it does not matter why the claim is late.

Bereaved parents who lost their partner between 9 April 2001 and 8 February 2023 may be eligible for backdated government payments.
