The Government has introduced a package of support to help households with the rising cost of living.

On May 26th 2022 the Government announced that they will provide over £15 million support, targeted particularly on those with the greatest need. This package together with the over £22 billion announced previously brings government support for the cost of living to over £37 billion this year.

Almost all of the eight million most vulnerable households will get £1,200 of one-off support in total this winter 2022/23 to help with the cost of living, and all domestic electricity customers will receive at least £400.

On September 8th 2022 the Government further announced that from 1st October 2022, a new ‘Energy Price Guarantee’ will mean a typical UK household will now pay up to an average £2,500 a year on their energy bill for the next two years. This is automatic and applies to all households. This will save the average household at least £1,000 a year based on current energy prices from October and is in addition to the £400 energy bills discount for all households.
