Mortgage/Payment Holidays

Payment Holidays are financial assistance schemes designed to help borrowers during the pandemic, allowing them to take debt repayment holidays without it affecting their credit files.

Payment holidays have been available since the first lockdown in the spring, but were due to end Saturday, 31 October.

However, with the announcement of the second lockdown the Financial Cnduct Authority confirmed that the temporary holiday of up to six months for those struggling to keep up their payments on mortgages, personal loans, credit cards, motor finance, rent to own, buy-now pay-later, pawnbroking and high-cost short-term credit, will be extended - see:

Mortgage and Credit Card Payment Holidays Extended

However The FCA warned that it was important that consumer credit customers who can afford to make repayments should continue to do so.

Detailed information is available at the following links:

What to do when your payment holiday ends

If you’ve taken a payment holiday on a mortgage or credit card, or a repayment deferral on a loan you will be contacted by your provider before your payments are due to resume explaining what will happen next.

This will include information about resuming payments and what you can do if you’re not able to resume payments.

More information is available from The Money Advice Service.
