WELCOME TO MY ADVICE GATEWAY

My Advice Gateway is a free resource to help you quickly find the information you need to claim benefits, access help and support or look for a job or training opportunities. Other services include sections on banking, insurance and how to manage debt.

There is so much information available on the internet that it can often be a tedious and time consuming activity to search through the mass of advice that is available in order to find the information you need. Even government websites that have been set up to provide help can be difficult to find your way around.

My Advice Gateway has been built to help you find the information you need quickly and effectively. Links will take you to authoritative advice or the precise application form you need.

We hope you will find My Advice Gateway useful. If you do, why not tell your friends. . .

SUPPORT FOR MORTGAGE INTEREST
SUPPORT FOR MORTGAGE INTEREST

Support for Mortgage Interest (SMI) helps home-owners with the costs of mortgage payments and some loans for repairs and improvements to the home when claiming certain other benefits.

The qualifying benefits are:

  • income support
  • income-based jobseeker's allowance
  • income-related employment and support allowance
  • pension credit

Support for Mortgage Interest will no longer exist as a benefit from Friday 6 April 2018 and is replaced with an interest bearing loan. This means that owner-occupiers who require help with their Housing Costs from this date can take out a loan and have a charging order placed on the property.

This is voluntary, however there is no other help available. This will apply to both existing and new claimants. If you already in receipt of SMI, it will stop being paid from 5 April 2018. You’ll get a letter before then about the SMI loan and other options available to you.

For an overview of SMI and details of eligibility, what you might get and how to claim go to this link. Further information is available from Money Advice Service.
